30 for 30

Day Seventeen

Stop

Today we are going to spend some time in worship. Find a worship track and put it on. Rest in God’s unending mercy and pour out your praise at His feet. May we recommend the new album ‘Returning’ from Vineyard Anaheim. It’s a beautiful picture of surrender and hunger. You can find it on Youtube & Spotify.

Look

Read Matthew 16. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. You may want to make notes, underline in your bible or journal all that God is saying.

Thought of the day

Matthew 16: 15-16 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Just like Peter, Jesus asks this question of each of us. Who do you say Jesus is?

It is a question of enormous gravity, because our view of Jesus will directly shape how we respond to Him, how we live, and what we tell others about Him. If our view of Jesus is inaccurate, at best we’re following a Jesus that only resembles the real Jesus, and, at worst, we follow a Jesus that a product of our imagination. In other words He doesn’t actually exist.

Who do you say Jesus is?

If our response is as Peter’s was – then we are also blessed. But this understanding has to change how we live. If Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, then He deserves our worship, our honour and our lives.

Do we live each day with this vision of who Jesus is?

Lots of people have lots of opinions of Jesus. This is why reading the Gospel of Matthew in 30 days is so wonderful – because we’re allowing the Word of God to directly inform us and conform our thinking – revealing the reality of who Jesus is in new and true ways.

Pray

Today we’re going to pray for the miraculous. Pray for healings to increase among us. Pray for signs and wonders to demonstrate the goodness of God in our homes and streets. Pray that God’s light would shine in a city and culture that has turned away from Him.
